frequently asked questions

What is a Martingale Collar?

Also known as a "humane choker", a Martingale Collar works by constricting when a dog pulls against it.  This works for dogs who try to back out of their collars, as well as those who pull on the leash.  Martingales were first used on hunting dogs, such as whippets or greyhounds, whose necks are larger than their heads.  The two-loop construction keeps the dog from backing out.  The larger loop slips over the dog's head, while the leash attaches to the smaller loop, and constricts when it feels tension.

Our collars are adjustable, so they can be worn by many different breeds, not just greyhounds.  Our standard collars adjust from 12" to 17".  If you need a smaller or larger size, we will be glad to custom make it for you at no additional charge.  Please see measuring instructions below.

ID tags should never be placed on the Martingale Collar's D-Ring.  If a dogs tags get caught on something, it could initiate the constricting action, and could possibly injure your dog.  Please place tags on one of the side slides, or better yet, get one of our tag collars.

What is a Tag Collar?

A Tag Collar is an adjustable collar designed to hold your ID Tags.  It is worn loosely near the base of the neck.  Since this collar does not act to constrict around your dog's neck, as a Martingale Collar, your dog can easily back out of the collar if the ID Tags get caught. Tag Collars have no D-Ring, therefore are NEVER used to attach a leash.  Our dogs wear their tag collars 24/7, and we slip the Martingale Collars on when it is walk time.

How do I measure my dog for a collar?

First, measure your dog around the neck where the collar will rest.  Next, measure your dog's head around the widest part, typically just in front of the ears.  If these measurements fall outside of our standard collars (from 12" to 17"), we can still custom make one for you.  Just include your dog's breed and measurements in the comment box when checking out, or E-Mail the information to us.

How do I properly adjust my dog's collar?

Pull the Martingale Collar snug around the narrow point of the neck (just behind the ears), adjust the collar so when you pull on the D-Ring to snug the collar, there is at least a two finger width spacing between the slides in the loop.  And remember to check the sizing regularly as it does tend to slip with use.  A too loose collar might allow your dog to back out of it.  For further information, please click HERE to look at this PDF.

Who is Aid 4 Greys?

Or who are Aid 4 Greys?  In any case, we are a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation, and we raise money for greyhound rescue organizations everywhere.  We are not an adoption group.  We make and sell all of the products you see here on our website, and give every dollar we make to greyhound rescue groups.  We are 100% volunteer, and are proud of our record of donating to many rescue groups every year since we started in 2005.
